The Two of Wands suggests putting the creative fire into action, using it for power and forcefulness. Together, these qualities produce the concept of mastery, hence the title of Dominion. The background of this picture, from Haindl’s painting Katherdrale, shows a ruined church. The ancient stone in the middle has been used for many temples on the same site,so that the church image speaks of deep roots. Dominion can be spiritual as well as practical. The crossed wands may suggest the idea of an X barring the entrance, and reminds us if we seek dominion solely over the material world of wealth, power, and comfort,we bar the way to our spiritual development. But the crossed wands also form the Gift Rune,Gebo, from The Sun card (the card of archetypal fire energy.). The spears mimic a gesture known in many spiritual traditions, that of crossing the arms over the chest. This “Saint Andrew’s Cross”is a posture of power and self-containment (dominion over our own lives).
