A Prozac Moment - 2003

Those of us who are ordinary look at those who are beautiful, those who are rich, those who are popular, and think: "If only I were like them, I would be happy." Where are her friends now? Where is her finery? Emptiness comes from within, and now is reflected all around her. If she only had the courage, she would swim into the surf and never return, but even that release is denied her. In this moment, the full weight of hopelessness is realized.
Each time I look at this I want to wrap a blanket around her, take her in my arms, and say: "It's all right. Don't be sad. I'm here for you."
I'm not sure I want to part with this one.
