Decks

There are dozens of tarot review sites on the web, so thought I would take a slightly different approach. Instead of a lot of verbiage about why I do or don't like this or that deck, you can pretty much assume that the decks I choose to cover are decks I like a lot. (Others have been sold along the way).  In order to put the decks into some kind of context, I'm going to take an assortment of cards from each deck, and compare them, both visually and in terms of meaning, to the Rider-Waite deck, with which most of us are intimately familiar. The only exception, of course, will be the Rider-Waite deck itself, which I include for the sake of completeness. This approach will serve to emphasize what makes each deck special and unique.

A few notes: In most cases I took the descriptions directly from the booklets that come with the decks. Hence, if the description is sparse, that's what comes with the deck; the rest is up to you. In the case of the Rider-Waite cards I took my descriptions from Seventy-Eight Degrees of Wisdom, by Rachel Pollack and from Tarot As A Way Of Life--A Jungian Approach to the Tarot, by Karen Manacker-Zondag. I highly recommend both of these books to anyone interested in the Tarot, but especially for those working with the Rider-Waite deck.
